        1. Dear Adam,

You should try running, proper diet and weight training. It will help you to strengthen your muscles. It will eventually help you to play with the heavier bat.
You are playing for the district, so a Grade 2 English Willow cricket bat will be suitable for you. Its light in weight and durable.

To know more about Bats, read my post http://cricvision.com/how-to-choose-a-cricket-bat/
I hope you will find my comment helpful. I will write more about the technical stuff in near future. Do follow my posts.

          Thank You for the comment

        2. Ignore Admin. I am still a 1st team player in senior club cricket at 60 and get in the gym 4 times a week. Despite this (and being able to bench press 80kg) I find I need a lightweight bat, especially being a back foot player favouring the off side. If your game benefits from a light bat then no amount of gym work will affect it.

I suggest a Kookaburra Blade if you can still find one. Great bat and very light but with no loss of power. I have tried others of a similar weight (2lb 8oz) but not found any that get near it for ease of pick up (and that includes current Kookaburra models).

  1. dear admin I like your post.
    1. which one is better for power hitting?
    kookaburra kahuna or spartan??

    2. how can you miss newballance and slazanger??

    1. Dear Arjun,

Actually power hitting is a combination of the power of a player and also his bat. If a player has muscles like Gayle or Pollard, he can go for a heavier bat to generate more power. So come to your questions.

      1. In general scenario Kookaburra Kahuna has a graphite backing to uplift its performance. Its banned in the test matches but still used in all other formats. Thus it has an unfair advantage over Spartan.

      2. This list can contain only 10 bats. I had to cut down some good bats on the way. That is how it goes.

    1. Dear Rafio,

First of all you have to tell me about your weakness.

If a batsman is physically weak, he should try weight training. It will help him to strengthen his muscles. It will eventually help him to play with the heavier bat. It will provide more value for every shot.

If a batsman is weak technically, he should try to focus on his strength. If he is a shot maker, he should try to learn clean hitting. Because its a time taking process to become a technically strong batsman as compare to a hard hitter.

    1. Dear Aajazul,

Yes, Kashmir Willow bats are also good to play with. Many experts believe that Kashmir Willow is the best raw material to produce a cricket bat. But it has its weakness.
Kashmir Willow is the best option for the beginners. Its low cost and stroke making ability is a blessing. But its durability is the matter of concern.

I am going to write about the selection procedure of the willow. Keep following our posts.

      Thanks for the comment.

    1. Dear Muthu,

It depends on the willow and grade you are going to choose. It comes in both the Willows (Kashmir and English).
If you are a club level player, I suggest you to go for top grade Kashmir Willow cricket bat. It offers great value for money. It will be slightly heavier as compared to the English Willow version though.
If you play at the State level, you should go for the Grade 1 or 2 English Willow cricket bat (according to your budget). It would be more beneficial for you in the long term.
You have to check the price for the bat on your own. I can help you for the selection procedure for that.

      1. i wont buy new cricket bat which bat buy i need good bad and life long wight less bat i need little short ball will go six are four so tell me nice bat

    1. Dear Dinesh,

Powerful shots need some factors to fulfill.

      1. First and the most important thing is to hit the ball from the middle of the bat.
      2. At least a decent back-lift but good follow through of the bat is must.
      3. You need to produce more momentum in your bat swing. You should look for heavier bats. Try a Kashmir Willow Bat for once.
      4. Try to play big shots while stepping out of the crease. It will help you to produce more momentum.
      5. When you hit the ball over the top, try to hit the ball close to 45 degrees angle from the ground. The more close to the angle you hit, the more distance the ball will get(Simple Physics).
      6. Try to hit the ball in the direction of the wind flow.

If you try all my advices, your shot making ability will definitely improve up to minimum 50%, and you can hit sixes up to 80 meters.
If you have doubts regarding any of the points, you can comment me back, I will simplify it for you.

  3. For the Tennis Ball Club level cricket game which is better willow, ENGLISH Willow or KASHMIR WILLOW BAT ? and How can we get High Grade Kashmir willow bat its not mention anywhere I believe…?

    1. Dear Amit,

It really depends on how you feel about the bat. I have played with both the willows and trust me, Kashmir willow is good enough for tennis balls. A good Kashmir willow bat for tennis balls starts from around Rs 650 and for leather balls costs around Rs 1200 (if you want to try it).
Generally English willow comes for the leather balls. If your budget allows you, then you can use it for tennis balls too. A grade 3 English willow is going to cost you around Rs 4000.
The basic difference between the willows is the weight. English willow is lighter than Kashmir willow due to the less amount of moisture presence. Choose the bat accordingly.
Kashmir willow bats are produced in our country. So it has access to all parts of India. You can have it from any good sports shop. You just need to ask for it.

  4. I have a bat(SG VS-319 PLUS), it is a great bat, it is a lower middle bat, perfect for power hitting….. Admin give some advise to play yorker with my type of bat.

    1. Dear Chintan,

SG VS-319 PLUS is an awesome bat with full of stroke. Your bat must have Toe Guard for protection from moisture and splits.
Look, there is risk involved while playing Yorkers. It’s an advantage of having lower middle bat. It means your bat contains more willow to the lower portion. Try to play Yorkers from as higher part of the bat as possible. Try to block or time the Yorkers, not to hit them hard from the lowest end of the bat. What can I say; you can’t do much about it. That’s why it’s still the most effective ball of the game, unless you can play them like AB de Villiers.

      Thanx for your comment.

    1. Dear Siddharth

As a beginner you should go for Kashmir Willow cricket bat. It will be heavier so it will help you to develop strong muscles for your hands and wrists. It will help you in the long term. Its also a cost effective option.
SG Kashmir Willow bats would be good enough for you. They will cost you around 1000 to 1500.
When you become an expert, then go for an English Willow one. All the best.

  5. Cricket is my life I like cricket very much for best batting best bat is most necessary thing I also choosed the best bat and I played best innings so i like this site and I hope you will also Like thank…..

    1. Dear Apcilone,

Its not about the bats. Its about what you want and what your budget allows you.
For normal playing, you should go for Alfa or Fenta. Both the companies provide good quality Tennis Ball Bats within 1000 bucks.
If you want more hitting capacity, you should go for Kashmir Willow cricket bat. It will be heavier so it will help you to develop strong muscles for your hands and wrists. It will help you in the long term. Due to its weight it provide more value for your shots. SG Kashmir Willow bats would be good enough for you. They will cost you around 1000 to 1500.
If you want the best, go for English Willow bats. It will be light weighed but provide good stroke. A decent one will cost you around 2500.

  6. Would u plzzzz give me a suggestion hw to select a best bat wd good stroke and long life….. plzzzz give me some suggestions

  7. Dear Admin,
I am 12 years old and started playing cricket a year.I have an SG Cobra Gold*, is it fit for beginners like me and I have oiled beaten it.
    *Kashmir Willow

  8. Dear Dhruv,

Yes, SG Cobra Gold Kashmir Willow is perfect for beginners.
Kashmir Willow bats require constant knocking and oiling. It is important because it makes the bat good enough to use in a cricket match. Knocking makes the fibers of the willow blade compress together. It helps the bat to bear the impact of the ball. Constant knocking for is required so that the edges of the bat are well shaped. Another major aspect of taking care of such bats is oiling. Oil is applied on the back, toe, front and edges of the bat. It makes the Bat more durable and ensures that the fibers get knitted properly.
I am going to write a post about how to take care of a Cricket Bat in a few days. Keep following my posts.

  9. Dear Dhruv,

Use raw linseed oil or specialized cricket bat oil only. Raw linseed oil tends to penetrate better than boiled linseed oil. Do not oil the whole bat, just oil the face, toe and edges.
I will provide more information about it in my upcoming post.

    Thank you for the comment.

  10. Hey there, Am looking to buy a cricket bat. Am mostly a front foot player and i do like to play big shots. I will be visiting india on a short trip. Budget will not be a big constraint for the bat. I would like to know which particular indian bat is good for low to medium bounce wickets. Also do we get original kahuna in India, just asking.

  11. Hi Admin,

Thank you for replying all the questions asked. Its rare these days that people take out time to reply to everything.

My question is- I am planning to buy a bat but I wanted to know whether English willow garde 1 and grade 2 differ extensively? I am ok to spend around Rs 15000.
And I was looking at SG-Seirra 350. I like that bat and its thick edges and the cost is under 10k.
However its grade 2 English willow. Will it make a big difference from Grade 1?

Also give your opinion on these bats SG-seirra 350, Spartan MC2000, SG T-45 ultimate

Any other recomendations? I want thick edges, 8+ grains, SH size.

    Thanks in advance

    1. Hi Nikunj,

You have loads of queries and its a good thing. But, there is a lot to answer. I suggest you to read my other posts to know about the technical details. After reading them, you will have most of the answers. If you still face any doubt then let me know. I will try my level best to help you out.

  12. Dear Admin,
As you said in Apcelone Sekhone’s post that a Kashmir willow bat is heavy,I think it is true because my SG Cobra Gold is also heavy and it is the biggest size.In the starting I was unable to even lift it properly but gradually I started practicing and started hitting good shots. But I have noticed that if I do not practice for one day I feel its heavy again.I am a both right handed batsman and left though I am more used to Right handed I have started learning left handed also. I hit powerful and uncontrolled shots from right and Less powerful and controlled shots from left so which is better?

  13. Dear Dhruv,

Its called muscle memory. Once you start playing with heavy bats, your hands and body adapted to it. But if you still feel its heavy then try a Grade 3 or 4 English Willow Cricket Bat. It will help you to understand which kind of Bat suits you better.

Then your next question. I can understand your problem. I had many younger cousins to play Cricket with. I am a genuine Right Handed all rounder, but due to their weakness I had to bat and ball with left hand. So eventually I become equally good Left Handed All rounder. I can play with both the hands now, but still I am better with right hand.
Both of your situations are useful. Try playing in shorter format with right hand and longer format with left for a change. But mind you it is just a friendly suggestion to help you know yourself better. Only you can decide what is best for you. Take your time to decide.

    Thanx for the comment

  14. Hi Admin,
I wanted to buy English willow grade 1 bat. Can you please let me know which one has the lightest bat. I prefer to play with light weight bat. Please suggest.

  16. Hey ! My age is 13 and my height is 4.6.what size and what company should I use . I live in India.i play club cricket .
    I. Want a big hitting bat. My budget is. 6000-14000.
I am already using MRF harrow now

  17. Admin i think your knowledge is not full of mark or deliberately you have ignored one of the best bats of the world that is “CA”.
